Christopher Alexander

Text from http://www.patternlanguage.com/

“Christopher Alexander is professor in the Graduate School and Emeritus Professor of Archtecture at the University of California, Berkleley. He is the father of the Pattern Language movement in computer science, and A Pattern Language, a seminal work that was perhaps the first complete book ever written in hypertext fashion.

He has designed and built more than two hundred buildings on five continents: many of these buildings lay the ground work of a new form of architecture, which looks far into the future, yet has roots in ancient traditions. Much of his work has been based on inventions in technology, including, especially, inventions in concrete, shell design, and contracting procedures needed to attain a living architecture. He was the founder of the Center for Environmental Structure in 1967, and remains President of that Company until today. In 2000, he founded PatternLanguage.com, and is Chairman of the Board. He has been a consultant to city, county, and national governments on every continent, has advised corporations, government agencies, and architects and planners throughout the world. Alexander was elected fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1996, is a fellow of the Swedish Royal Society, has been the recipient of innumerable architectural prizes and honors including the gold medal for research of the American Institute of Architects, awarded in 1970. He was born in Vienna, Austria in 1936. He was raised in England, and holds a Master’s Degree in Mathematics and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Cambridge University, and a PhD in Architecture from Harvard University. In 1958 he moved to the United States, and has lived in Berkeley, California from 1963 until the present. “

Mother Nature

Mother Nature, originally uploaded by Ste Jackson.

This is a English Science Project.

This quotation, by Paracelse, was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted something showing how grateful we have to be with the nature, why it doesn’t diserve to be treated like that. The nature it’s a very precious gift we receive and we have to take care of it like anybody or anything you love.

This photo was taken in Campos do Jordão, on a trip with my friends.

Rebels

gfsdgsfd.jpg

A rebel is someone who goes against the rules of the society. He has his own idea and most of the time its opposed to the others. During the 70’s, the punks were introducing a new style in the concervative english society; they were spoilted by drugs and drinks. There behavior was not contructive and therefore it was negative.

However, sometimes, rebeling itself can be a positive attitude because it is a sign of strongness ans it brings new ideas that can make the society better. Social movements at the beginning of the 20th century brought better conditions of life to lot of people.

REBEL

“The women are right to rebel against the laws because we did them without them.” [Montaigne]

“An army which elects its chief is declared rebellious.” [ Saint-Just ]

Music

gnndzg.jpg

What can I say about music???

Well, I very eclectic, I like all kind of music. My liking varies from classical music to rock and roll, pop, hip hop, …
I’m attracted by the whole music but what mainly catch me is the melody.
There is nothing more pleasant that listen to music, and feel the beat running throw your body or any other sensation.
My favorite singer is Michael Jackson. I really admire all his work : he has a beautiful voice, he’s a great composer, he’s a wonderful dancer, he’s just a perfect artist and a very good person. He has been my “music” during my whole life.

Scary Movies

saw-3-poster-1.jpg

I really enjoy scary movie, especially when I see it with my friends. But I am a real fearfull person.

But I think that sometimes, the people don’t give importance to the brutality we see in horror movie. Some people like to watch it because they think this is funny and sometimes they even laugh during a shoking scene.

The movie Saw (I, II and III), was a big succes. I haven’t watch it yet, but I know that it is very scary and disgusting.

Smoking

sexta-129-1.jpg

 From Ashley’s blog

I saw a post on Ashley’s blog where she talks about teenagers who smoke. Well, I would like to say that I agree with her. It’s seams to me that a big portion of teenagers don’t bother about the bad consenquences of smoking. Most of them beging to smoke cigarettes just for fun or under influence of the others, and then they can’t stop it. Indeed these consequences on one’s health appears much later.

On an other hand, the smoke is not pleasent for the ones who don’t smoke and it’s also bad for their health. Although there are campains against the ecxess of smoking, even on the cigarettes packing wich show shocking images, what upsets me is that the smokers don’t seam to pay attention to that. I might be wrong, but it is my impression.

I’m not juging anything or anybody and I know that it’s not easy to stop when you become dependant, but it’s hard to accept that such a little thing can make so much damages to human been.

Draw

I love to draw. For me, drawing it’s not only a passtime but it’s also a passion. Since I’m a child I like to draw. It’s awsome to let your imagination go on a piece of paper. I just don’t know how to explain my feeling about that.

PS: I made this portrait of Avril Lavigne for my friend Brunet.

Beautiful landscape by Beewebhead. I loved the lights, the contrast and the colors.

Pantanal

Pantanal, originally uploaded by Ste Jackson.

I love this picture. I took it during my traveling to the Pantanal. It’s incredible how beautiful the earth can be, it’s a pity that the man is gradually destroying the wonderful natural landscapes of the world. It’s a little bit scary because it’s difficult to imagine that we are losing little by little all these precious things God gave us. I hope that something will be done to stop the selfishness of the human that only cares about what he wants.

Natural disasters

nd.JPG

From Derek’s blog

I found this post interesting. It’s a great idea to show how strong is the nature! Derek describe each natural disasters. I think that the nature is the most amazing and beautiful thing in this world, however it’s dangerous! Even the human can’t completely destroy it. Maybe in the future, we will be capable to prevent it from doing all those disasters. But it’s not the case actually, so we have to get used with it.

PS: I took this picture when travelling in a car and it started to rain.
